Circular Quilted Cushion
This is the most convenient thing I've sewed. It's both comfy and pretty and although it takes a little time, it's very simple to make. The cushion is 14 inches in diameter and I use it often to prop it behind my chair while I study.
Instructions

The pdf pattern for this pillow is found in the URL. Using the small pillow template, cut out 12 triangles. Arrange the triangles in a circle, the order you would like them. Sew the triangles in pairs, using 1/4" seam allowance on the sides.
2. Sew three sets of pairs together by the sides of the triangles again. Use a 1/4" seam allowance. You should have two halves of of a circle now.
3. Sew the two halves together, again using 1/4" seam. Then iron the piece, with all seams open. The photo below shows the back.
4. Cut out a back piece for the cushion, the same size as the front circle. Also cut out a 5 x 43 1/2" strip from the back fabric. Sew the ends of this strip together using 1/2" seam allowance.
5. Sew the strip around the perimeter of the front piece using 1/2" seam. If the strip is too short, add some more fabric.
6. Repeat with the back circular piece, with the other side of the strip so that the quilted piece is enclosed inside it all. Leave a 4" opening. Turn the whole piece right side out and stuff with cotton.
7. Finally, sew on a button through the middle, using a thick needle and embroidery thread.
