Nail-Clipper Pouch
Materials:
5" zipper
(2) 1.5 x 2.5" lining fabric for zipper tabs
(3) 5 1/4 x 6" pieces from main fabric, lining, and batting
Instructions:
1. Fold a zipper tab piece in half width wise. Unfold, then fold the edges on each side to the center crease you just created. Iron while folding. Fold this in half again, enveloping the end of a zipper in doing so. Topstitch in place with 1/8" seam allowance. Repeat for other zipper tab.
2. For the main pieces, layer the lining right side down, the batting on top, and the outer piece on the top of everything, right side up. Quilt this, lengthwise, making topstitched stripes about 3/8" apart. Trim the edges of the quilted piece.
3. Align the zipper, right side down, to one short edge of the main piece. Sew with a 1/4" seam allowance. Trim. Repeat for the other long edge of the zipper and the other short edge of the main piece. When you're finished, you should have a cylinder that is wrong side out.
Note: Although I skipped this step, you can topstitch near the edges of the zipper. To do so, after sewing one long edge of the zipper to one short edge of the main piece, topstitch, THEN proceeding to the next long edge of the zipper and the next short edge of the main piece. After this, open up the zipper all the way in order to topstitch near the other edge close to the zipper.
4. Make sure the zipper is open halfway. Press the cylinder down into a rectangle with the zipper positioned in the middle. Press. Sew on each open, short side using 1/4" seam allowance. Trim.
5. To box the corners, take a hold of each corner and from them into triangles with the seam centered to the middle. Sew horizontal lines 1/2" from the peaks of the triangles. Trim. Turn the whole thing right side out and press on all sides to form a more boxed-like shape.
Done!
