Eyeglass/Sunglasses Pouch

Note: This pouch is originally for eyeglasses, but sunglasses do fit. If you have a big pair of sunglasses they will fit very tightly in this case.

Materials:

(2) 4 x 7 1/2" thin fabric for lining pieces

(2) 8" x 7 1/2" cotton batting, fold these in half so that they are 4" wide, 7 1/2" tall

(2) 3 1/4" x 3 1/2" canvas for flap pieces

(1) 3" x 3" cotton batting square for interfacing the flap

(2) hook & loop pieces of velcro, mine were 3/4" wide 1 1/4" in length

(1) 5/8" wide button for embellishment

pink embroidery floss

dark brown thread

Instructions:

1. Lay the outer pieces atop of the folded cotton batting pieces. Quilt both outer pieces in a criss-cross pattern. What I did was topstitch parallel diagonal stripes, then repeat but this time directly opposing to the earlier set of stripes. Trim the edges of both quilted pieces.

On one of the quilted outer pieces, center the ribbon in the middle and run two topstitching lines close to the sides of the ribbon.

2. Making the flap, lay the two canvas pieces right sides together together and cut a curve at the bottom. Cut the cotton batting piece to be 1/4" smaller on all its sides than the canvas pieces. Sew the canvas pieces together on the curved bottom and two sides using 1/4" seam, lay the cotton batting piece on top, and turn right side out through the top opening.

3. Topstitch the canvas flap on its curved bottom and two sides, using 1/4" seam allowance.

4. To start assembling, layer the outer piece with the ribbon and the lining piece right sides together and sew across the top edge using 1/4" seam.

Layer the other outer piece right side up, the canvas flap right side down with its top edge aligning to the top edge of the outer piece, and the remaining lining piece right side down atop of everything. Sew across the top edge with 1/4" seam allowance, catching the raw edge of the flap in doing so.

Open the two assembled pieces so that the right sides of the linings and outer pieces are visible. Iron. The canvas flap should still be right side down.

5. This is the ultimate finishing step for the pouch itself; lay the two assembled pieces right sides together. The outer pieces should be right sides together and the lining pieces should be right sides together. The center seams should be nicely aligned. Pin and sew all around the edges, using 1/4" seam allowance. Leave a 2 3/4" opening at the side of the lining.

Turn the entire thing right side out through the lining. Poke out all the corners using a pointed but unsharp object and slip-stitch the lining opening closed. Tuck lining into pouch. Iron everything neatly, including the fold-over crease for the canvas flap.

6. To make the decorative patch, lay the canvas pieces right sides together and sew around the edges using a 1/4" seam allowance. Leave a big enough opening for turning and turn the piece right side out through it.

With pink embroidery floss, stitch around the patch's edges. I sketched the word "Love" with pencil on the patch and stitched on this outline using two strands of brown thread. Slip-stitch the patch's edges to the center of the eyeglass pouch.

7. Sew a button to the front of the canvas flap. Mine is centered 5/8" from the bottom edge of the flap. Sew on velcro patches, one to cover up the threads that show on the underside of the flap from sewing on the button and one to match where this velcro will close on the front top of the pouch.
