Bread Balls
I don't know why I didn't do a blog post on these bread balls sooner. I had made these way back in May and had taken all the photos, but I never did a blog post on them.
Well so, I'm doing this post now. I'm trying to finish all left-behind blog posts before I go to Korea. I'm going to Korea very soon for summer vacation. Yay!
Now let me tell you more about the bread balls. First of all, they were really yummy. They were even more delicious when I ate them immediately after baking. But what you can also do with the bread balls is make them into mini sandwiches. Or, you can enjoy them with your breakfast. Maybe you can even take them to a picnic. :D
Bread Balls (Yields 18 balls that are 5cm in diameter) Ingredients -250g all-purpose flour -20g white granulated sugar -1/4 tsp. salt -1 tsp. instant dry yeast -170ml milk -30g room-temp. butter -1 egg yolk -2 tbsp. water Instructions 1. To make egg wash, whisk together water and egg yolk. 2. Sift together flour and salt. 3. Heat the milk until warm but not hot. Add the sugar and yeast and stir. Let it rest for 10 minutes to proof the yeast. 4. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients. Add the yeast mixture to it and stir with a wooden spoon until the dough comes together. 5. Knead the dough by hand in this method for about 30 minutes: Stretch the dough, fold in half, stretch again, repeat. 6. The finished dough should be elasticky and smooth. Add the butter and continue kneading until incorporated and smooth again. 7. Form the dough into a large ball and let it rest (in a warm place) for 1 hour until double in size. 8. On a floured surface, place the rested dough and punch to release gas. Divide it into 18 pieces. Each piece should weigh 25 grams. 9. Form each dough into balls and cover them with a cloth. Let them rest for 20 minutes. 10. Lightly release the gas of each ball again and form them back into round balls. Place them on baking pans lined with parchment paper and let them rest AGAIN, covered, for 40 minutes. Preheat your oven at this point to 180 degrees Celsius. 11. After resting, brush egg wash on each ball of dough. 12. Bake the balls in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes until golden brown. Enjoy warm!
